On Wednesday, 5th August, 2023, we had the opportunity to go on an exciting and educational excursion with a group of twelve of Shared Space’s young learners to the newly commissioned Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and then to Kempinski’s Gallery 1957.
Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park Visit
Our first destination was the newly commissioned Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, where we were fortunate to have an experienced tour guide accompany us. This guide provided us with a captivating narrative about the life and contributions of Ghana's founding father, Kwame Nkrumah. The children were not only attentive but also highly engaged, asking insightful questions that demonstrated their genuine interest in the history and legacy of this great leader.
During our visit to the Memorial Park, we had the privilege of paying our respects at the tombs of Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia. This moment allowed the children to connect on a deeper level with the historical significance of the site.
Gallery 1957 - "Love Story: Dancing Hearts II" Exhibition:
Our second destination, Gallery 1957, presented a distinct contrast to the historical depth of the Memorial Park. Here, the children were introduced to contemporary art through an exhibition by the talented artist Nana Bruce, titled, "Love Story: Dancing Hearts II."
The gallery experience was enriched by a touch of modernity, with children enjoying rides in an elevator – an exhilarating-first for some. Additionally, for those who had never used an escalator before, it was a thrilling experience, adding an extra layer of excitement to our visit.
