Early detection helps, Get Screened for Breast Cancer- Shared Space urges All

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign observed in October. The primary objective of this month-long campaign is to raise awareness about breast cancer, promote early detection, support those affected by the disease, and raise funds for research, prevention, and treatment. It serves as a reminder of the importance of regular breast examinations and mammograms to detect breast cancer at an early, more treatable stage.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2023 is a month-long global campaign dedicated to educating individuals about breast cancer and encouraging proactive measures for early detection. It aims to empower women and men to take charge of their breast health and provides a platform for advocacy, fundraising, and support for breast cancer patients and survivors.

This is observed throughout the entire month of October each year. During this time, individuals, healthcare organizations, and nonprofits collaborate to raise awareness and promote breast cancer prevention and treatment.

Participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month can make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer.
Here are ways to get involved:

  • Self-Exams: Perform regular breast self-exams to become familiar with your breasts and promptly report any changes to your healthcare provider.
  • Clinical Exams: Schedule regular clinical breast exams with your healthcare provider, especially if you are over the age of 40.
  • Mammograms: If you are of screening age, schedule and undergo regular mammograms as recommended by your healthcare provider.
  • Wear Pink: Show your support by wearing pink ribbons, clothing, or accessories to raise awareness.
  • Share Information: Use social media to share breast cancer awareness facts, stories, and resources using #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth.
During this period, The Shared Space is encouraging all and sundry especially women to visit the nearest center in their locality to get screened.
