  Books! Some of us may have piles of old books taking up space on shelves in our homes. The Shared Space encourages us to sort out those books once in a while, keep the ones that we would want to keep and share the ones we can share :)  A community book-drive spreads the joy of reading by providing libraries with quality literature, textbooks, magazines and helpful books. We would be glad to accept  books and other library-beneficial items from your home. We believe in re-using and re-purposing items and are open to suggestions and collaborations.  Enriching the scope  available books in our Space is one of the  practical steps necessary to inspire a love of reading in our communities,  neighbourhoods and country at large. This year's global theme is "Protect children from child labour now more than ever". In Ghana, the theme has been domesticated as: "Intensify action against child labour. Do it now! Do it fast!" M arked annually on June 12 th  t he International Labour Organization established World Day Against Child Labour, which is  a holiday instituted by the United Nations  to  bring attention to the plight of child labourers around the world, and the need for a concerted effort to end all forms of child labour. Since 2002, the International Labour Organization (I.L.O.) has urged the world community to take immediate and effective actions to abolish and prohibit the use of child labor in any form. World Environment Day Every year World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5.  This year the theme is #BeatPlasticPollution. The day is hosted by Côte d'Ivoire and supported by the Netherlands. The 2023 World Environment Day campaign #BeatPlasticPollution calls for global solutions to combat plastic pollution.   A  word search, word find, word seek, word sleuth or mystery word puzzle  is a word game  that consists of the letters of words placed in a grid, which usually has a rectangular or square shape. The objective of this puzzle is to find and mark all the words hidden inside the box. The words may be placed horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Often a list of the hidden words is provided, but more challenging puzzles may not provide a list.   Many word search puzzles have a theme to which all the hidden words are related such as food, animals, or colours.   As part of celebrating Ghana's Heritage month which is the month of March, we at Shared Space took a trip to the  Citi FM “Back to Your Village Food Bazaar”. The program was held at the forecourt of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and showcased indigenous Ghanaian dishes like Omo tuo, Banku, Tuo Zaafi, Kokonte, Ampesie, among others. On 25th March 2023, we had the opportunity of tasting some delicious local foods and snacks from across Ghana including 'apaparansa', waakye, plantain, coconut crunch, peanut crunch.   This trip was taken by some children and adults from the Shared Space and the children learnt a lot about a wide range of Ghanaian meals and their preparation, while enjoying live performances of Ghanaian music. Below are written experiences by the children.  

  Saturday special flyer Your children get to spend an hour or two playing & learning through a broad range of activities. Children also get to interact with other children & adults aside their ‘regular’ crew, deepening their well-needed socialization skills.  Parents also get an hour our two to attend to other activities like going to the market or shopping, or just sleeping in a bit on a Saturday morning. :) We’re open to suggestions and ideas.  We will also be happy to have some adults volunteer a bit of time to make an impact on the next generation whenever time allows. Children enjoy doing stuff together with adults, and those of us with children at home could extend some activities from our homes to the Shared Space so that we can make an impact of other children as well.  These activities to volunteer for could but are not limited to the following: playing ludo or Oware together, teaching the basics of a handiwork, a patriotic song in local or foreign ...

Reading to connect minds for social transformation conference The power of books and reading must be the cornerstone to achieve a more inclusive, equitable and peaceful society, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said. For that reason, he stressed that it was imperative that Ghana and Africa strived to develop "our book and creative art industries, as well as scale up the use, through the transformative power of reading, for societal development." President Nana Akufo-Addo, who was speaking at the official launch of the Accra World Book Capital, 2023 Campaign', in Accra, on Monday, noted that education, the creative arts and culture were catalysts for creating opportunities and more decent jobs for the youth. Children and parents experienced the best time in painting, from mixing colors to stroking and brushing. The aim was to bring out the inner ‘Picassos’ of each participant along side awakening the creativity from within, especially the children. Foosball     Table football, also known as foosball or table soccer, is a table-top game that is loosely based on association football.   One important vision of our Space is to support children to explore their creative abilities. For this reason, we have set up weekly 'Craft days' when we engage in creative art-related activities.
